About the series..
This movement mini-series is all about slowing down and tapping into what feels uniquely good to your body, exploring sensual dance through gentle stretch, swirl, and strength. Each class is structured as a moving meditation, with supportive invitations to follow the foundational choreography as well as generous opportunities to explore your body’s desired breath, curve, and flow.
Sensual embodiment is a mindfulness practice of using your senses to feel into the pleasure of your own body, which is always in the present moment. Imagine if that delicious morning stretch or massage-inspired release was an actual movement practice -- it is! Welcome to the pleasure hunt…
Sensual Embodiment is a trauma-informed practice open to ALL bodies, no experience needed. Zoom access and playful curiosity required! Comfy floor space encouraged (carpet / yoga mat / blanket etc.). Warning: side effects include fun, bliss, and (long overdue) confidence.
About Lauren...
Hi, I’m Lauren! I have been a Sensual Embodiment practitioner for 14 years and began teaching private and community classes in 2020. I first experienced the art of sensual movement in a pole dance class, and found that the gooey floor warm-ups were my most favorite parts of the practice. As my tech career required more intense, linear, hierarchical energy, my body desired the juiciest of slowdowns, gentlest of unfoldings, and hottest mess of hot messes. I found that the practice of sensual embodiment unlocked a freedom in my own skin that I’d truly never known. Building this movement in community has been one of the most healing practices I’ve had the honor of experiencing.
I am deeply passionate about sharing this experience with others and inviting the spirit of curiosity, play, and pleasure into your movement vocabulary! An avid learner, I am certified in S Factor and Liquid Motion modalities, trauma-informed movement practices through UCLA, just completed Marlo Fisken’s Floor Flow certification program, and an enthusiastic member of Heather Alaine’s Mindful Movement community. It’s deeply important to me to acknowledge that sensual embodiment would not exist without its origins in erotic dance, strip clubs, s3x work, and the majority of BIPOC founders and dancers carrying this practice forward. (Hit me up for a list of my favorite teachers!) When not rolling around on my floor, you can find me making music to roll around to as @bronzebeforegold, exploring Portland, and studying the infinite wisdom of my cat (sleep, stretch, eat, repeat).
